Blog v Wiki

Blogs are an interesting way for people to read your simplified "diary" occupied with pictures and depictions. At my corporate office at MorganStanley, the financial service firm hosts several photography competitions to establish friendly camaraderie. One of the recent blog logs showed a winning picture of of the contestant standing in front of the many colorful tightly knitted apartment complexes in Hong Kong. Without a blog at the corporate workplace, there would be no opportunity to experience what others are experiencing through their lens.

Blogs are your ideas and it can come back to harm you. For celebrities around the world from America to China, blogs have resurfaced to show the minds of these celebrities. In China Bloggers have disappeared for disrespecting the Chinese government. Apparently these bloggers are a threat to public order. In the case of American Bloggers, Joy Reid, the MSNBC host showed her true colors when she noted in her blog "most straight people cringe at the sight of two men kissing" and "a lot of heterosexuals especially men, find the idea of homosexual sex to be ... well ... gross".

Wikipedias on the other hand are more factual based. There are Wikis for all things including movies, tv shows, and even Japanese cartoon. The innovation behind Wikis is the ability for people all over the world to collaborate as long as they are connected to the internet.

  1. I think that blogs can be just as, if not more, informative and factual based than wikis. It really depends on the content and person behind the posts and I think that's really interesting about blogs. However, for some blogs, I do agree that opinions posted online, especially in a blog where it's a collection of your personal thoughts, can come back to haunt you. It really is important to watch what you say online as it leaves a digital footprint!
